The clouds parted, as if on cue, as Wendy and Nicole shared their vows in an emotional river side ceremony. It was a crisp New England Fall afternoon, and the artist who was hired to paint the ceremony from the Lyme Art Academy couldn’t of asked for a better backdrop. Wendy and Nicole had been looking forward  looking for a  intimate weekend celebration with family and friends, who would be visiting from all over the country. The couple’s personal touches from beginning to end is what set this wedding apart. Wendy hand made everything, from the cloth ceremony cards, to felt feather boutonnieres for all of their guests.

Even though Wendy and Nicole’s wedding was in the Fall, they opted to stay away from the traditional autumn color palette. Linnea created the bridal bouquet with soft pastels- including dusty miller and soft pink roses. The table arrangements were an array of wild flowers, with hand painted pears and Lady Apples displayed on a burlap runner. The cake was a cinnamon apple confection, drizzled with warm butterscotch sauce. Wendy and Nicole wanted everything to be as organic and seasonal as possible, so it was a perfect fit with Chef Kris.Even though the details of the decor were discussed from over 3,000 miles apart, Linnea captured the couple’s Rustic New England theme perfectly. Guests departed with pots of Wild Flower Honey, and memories of an incredible weekend, that we know we’ll remember forever.

Every wedding is special to us, but Lisa and Jeff’s was very close to our heart. Jeff, son of the Bee’s previous Innkeepers, Bob and Penny Nelson, had grown up on the Bee and Thistle’s grounds. After he met his beautiful bride Lisa, they knew that they had to celebrate  where so many other memories had been made. It was such an honor to have their special day here.

After a traditional ceremony at St.Anne’s Church, the celebration began. At first, Penny found it difficult to let go as being ‘InnKeeper’ , but finally was able to give in and enjoy being a guest of honor. The Bee’s grounds were in all its’ glory, with roses blooming in our English Sunken Garden and our five acres  lush and green. Lisa’s flowers were a pop of yellow, and Linnea studded small pearls through out her bouquet. The couple opted for a cupcake Viennese Table instead of a traditional cake- and my, oh my, were these cupcakes beautiful. Fresh out of the oven and hand frosted, each cupcake was topped with a fresh flower. Continuing the couple’s love for all things sweet, each guest departed with hand decorated cookies.

‘April Showers will bring May Flowers’, but Patty and Bobby didn’t let that stop them from having a beautiful April wedding! Patty and Bobby had met years ago, reconnected, and fell head over heels for each other. Their fireside ceremony was emotional, yet playful, reminiscing memories of how they had found each other. Their reception was full of whimsical touches, with the children enjoying water ‘martinis’ at the bar, to enjoying the grounds with striped umbrellas.

Linnea handcrafted over the top cupcakes and a beautiful wedding cake , with extra butter cream frosting. Patty wanted a white palette for both her bridal bouquet and the beautiful flower girl, and Linnea pulled out the stops… Patty and Bobby are kids at heart, and we are so glad to have had their day at the Bee.

Beautiful Bee matchbooks from 'The Joy of Light'

It was no ordinary Wednesday last week at the Bee and Thistle Inn. We were lucky enough to be the venue for the “American Elegance” photo shoot that made it in to the pages of “Gala” magazine in September and to commemorate the amazing spread we decided to throw a soiree! To our delight, Guest of honor, and senior editor of “Gala” magazine and www.elegala.com, Kristin Burgess stayed the evening and graciously supplied magazines to all our guests. All of the featured vendors of the shoot were in attendance- Beth Chapman and friends from The White Dress by the Shore, Dana Bartone, Carla Ten Eyck Photography, Nicole Michele from Coral Pheasant Stationary + Design, Hope from A Little Imagination Cakes, Candace Coppola from Jubilee Events and Tony Palmieri from Datura: A Modern Garden.

As ‘Love Potion #9′ cocktails were being shaken at the bar, are guests mingled and got on their to the ‘String of Pearls’ orchestra. The gowns that were worn for the shoot were proudly on display, and guests got to see more of the images that Carla Ten Eyck provided.  As favors, Joyce from ‘The Joy of Light’ was kind enough to give us beautiful bee embossed matchbooks to give to our guests.  Thank you to all who attended!
